Case studies on Indian businesses is a fast growing area of interest in management studies both in India and abroad, as global B-schools are increasingly shifting focus towards understanding market opportunities and issues relevant to doing business in emerging economies.
For the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Case Development (CTLC) at the Indian School of Business (ISB), expanding the pool of cases on Indian businesses has always been a prerogative. Recently, the Centre achieved a new milestone of 100 case studies, all of which are India-specific.
“Our growing repository of India-specific cases cover the economic landscape of India, with cases ranging in focus from entrepreneurship at the bottom of the pyramid to giant multinationals vying for a foothold in India, and from traditional Indian family businesses to sustainable social ventures” says, Professor Arun Pereira, Executive Director, CTLC.
The Centre’s repository of cases is the largest of any Indian institution producing cases that are benchmarked to the highest global standards. Such standards entail cases that are based on extensive executive interviews, data collection and access to company details and comprehensive teaching notes.
The Centre takes its case studies to hundreds of universities across the globe through its partnership with Harvard Business Publishing and Ivey Publishing. Harvard Publishing has included the “ISB Case Collection” in Harvard’s Case Catalog, a privilege offered to only select institutions in the world. Last year, ISB cases have been used in over 40 countries.
The Centre has been supporting B-Schools not only through its case studies but also through the development of innovative pedagogies to facilitate the teaching-learning process. The Centre also conducts research that focuses on understanding the transfer of learning from the classroom to the workplace, for executive training programmes.
